Extract from our Kaikoura guide gives the following essential info.
'Tsunami threat to Kaikoura has been evident for a very long time and people need to be prepared to look after themselves for 3 days and be prepared to assist others. There is no Tsunami warning in Kaikoura. The evacuation warning is the earthquake.'
'Local Tsunami would be an event that would follow a strongly felt earthquake. If it lasts for more than one minute, or items fall from shelves, then this would be considered a sign to move to higher ground or inland.'
Sleeping easier after that advice!! Don't worry we head north tomorrow towards the more active volcano region.
